Calibration Day, 2019
Tuesday April 16th saw Oz Group team up with the Department of Primary Industries and Nufarm to inform and update growers in the importance of correct calibration and effective application of orchard sprayers. The workshop kicked off at 1:30pm at Adele Training Farm with presentations from Nufarm’s North Coast (NSW) Territory Manager, Matthew Moyle discussing calibration techniques, nozzle selection, achieving optimum coverage and meeting label requirements, and DPI Development Officer for Blueberry, Melinda Simpson presenting results from a collaborative project with Nufarm and Oz Group’s agronomy team about water volumes for different sized blueberry plants.
Over 60 attendees took part in practical workshops on measuring orchard parameters, determining tractor travel speed, calculating flow rate and theoretical water volumes. Thanks to the hard work and preparation of our organisers, the growers were then able to work out the type of nozzles that are most effective on different plant sizes.
The final session of the Workshop involved attendees calibrating orchard sprayers to ensure target water volumes are being achieved. Oz Group and our agronomist George was glad to have willing volunteers to get actively involved in the process.
The afternoon was a great success and a testament to the passion of Oz Group’s agronomy team to help growers farm more sustainably and effectively in our local community.
